THE POLICE IN WEST HOLLYWOOD ARE OFTEN BRUTAL AND ARE INSTITUTIONALLY DISHONEST. West Hollywood is a city in Los Angeles County, California, United States. West Hollywood is home to the Sunset Strip and has an estimated population of 37,000. West Hollywood is known for its large gay and lesbian population and is a fairly upscale high-income area. Approximately forty percent of the population of West Hollywood identifies as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender. West Hollywood has become one of the world’s top gay vacation spots for LGBT travelers and is at the center of gay California nightlife, including spas, shopping, and dining. Demographically, West Hollywood is approximately 71% White, 3.6% African American, 6.3% Asian, 12.6% Hispanic, 5.3% 0.14% Native American 0.14% and 0.11% other races. The City of West Hollywood contracts it police services with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department who deploy to patrol the streets of West Hollywood out of the West Hollywood Station located at 780 N San Vicente Blvd., West Hollywood, California. Notwithstanding West Hollywood’s affluent resident population that city has had a longstanding problem with crime by the homeless community. Because the City of West Hollywood is policed by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department the violent nature of that agency, an agency run by station gangs of gangster deputy sheriffs. See, Los Banditos, East LA Station has been a notorious LASD gang hub for decades, but not every deputy is welcome, Knock LA, April 1, 2021. However, most of the time that Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputy sheriffs abuse law abiding citizens, it is in the context of “Contempt of Cop” situations; situations where law abiding citizens verbally protest or verbally challenge police orders or actions that they perceive are abusive and unlawful. See, The “Contempt of Cop Game”; How Well Can You Play?, steeringlaw. When these “Contempt of Cop” situations arise, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputy sheriffs tend to beat or tase or pepper-spray, and falsely arrest and procure the malicious criminal prosecution of innocent civilians who merely exercise their verbally protest or verbally challenge police orders or actions; conduct that has long been held to be constitutionally protected conduct. As Justice William Brennan explained in striking down a City of Houston, Texas Municipal Ordinance that criminalized interrupting a police officer in the performance of his/her duties in City of Houston v. Hill, 482 U.S. 451 (1987): “The Houston ordinance is much more sweeping than the municipal ordinance struck down in Lewis. It is not limited to fighting words nor even to obscene or opprobrious language, but prohibits speech that “in any manner . . . interrupt[s]” an officer. The Constitution does not allow such speech to be made a crime. The freedom of individuals verbally to oppose or challenge police action without thereby risking arrest is one of the principal characteristics by which we distinguish a free nation from a police state.” IF YOU ARE THE VICTIM OF POLICE MISCONDUCT, JERRY L.
