As the old saying goes, “The young lawyer knows the law, but the old lawyer knows the Judge”.

THE POLICE IN SANTA BARBARA COUNTY ARE OFTEN BRUTAL AND ARE INSTITUTIONALLY DISHONEST.

Most law-abiding citizens believe that the police are basically honest men and women who have a difficult and dangerous job, with a few bad apples among the bunch.

Most law-abiding citizens also believe that as they are not violating the law any more than de minimis traffic infractions, that the police are not going to treat them badly.

Chances are that you now realize that the police are institutionally dishonest, that you don’t have to commit a crime to be charged with committing one, and that even nice law-abiding citizens can be and often are subjected to police beatings, tasings, pepper-sprayings, false arrests and malicious prosecutions.

These police outrages usually come upon law-abiding citizens in “Contempt of Cop” situations. See, The “Contempt of Cop Game”; How Well Can You Play?, steeringlaw.

In these “Contempt of Cop” situations, the police start out treating the law-abiding citizen poorly, and when the law-abiding citizen verbally protests or verbally challenges police orders or actions, the end up getting beaten, tased, pepper-sprayed, false arrested and malicious prosecuted for some fabricated “resistance offense” such as violation of Cal. Penal Code § 69 (resisting officer with force), Cal. Penal Code § 148(a)(1) (resisting/delaying/obstructing a officer), Cal. Penal Code § 240/241 (assault on officer), Cal. Penal Code § 242 / 243(b) & (c) (battery on officer causing injury) and Cal. Penal Code § 245(c) (assault on officer with weapon).

The Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office is one of the worst perpetrators of these “Contempt of Cop” beatings, tasings, pepper-sprayings, false arrests and malicious prosecutions. See, for example, these incidents of outrages committed by Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office deputy sheriffs:
