SOUTHEAST SAN DIEGO IS PATROLLED BY THE SAN DIEGO POLICE DEPARTMENT.
Southeast San Diego refers to the southeastern portion of San Diego, including the neighborhoods south of State Route 94 (Martin Luther King Jr. Freeway) and east of downtown San Diego (but excluding South San Diego). Southeast San Diego has no official definition, but it may be considered coterminous with three official planning areas: Skyline-Paradise Hills, Chollas Valley, and Southeastern. Largely urbanized in the areas nearer downtown San Diego to the west and characteristically hilly, Southeast San Diego is economically and ethnically diverse.
The population of Southeast San Diego is 52,502. The demographics of Southeast San Diego is Hispanic 79%, White 9% , African American 8%, Asian 2%, Two or more races 2%, Other race 0%.
Southeast San Diego generally has moderate to higher crime rates compared to the city’s northeast, with property crime more common than violent crime in many areas. Southeast San Diego also has a long history of street gang activity, shaped by its diverse population and proximity to the Mexican border. The area is home to both Hispanic-led gangs and broader street gang networks, with gang presence varying by neighborhood. The major street gangs in Southeast San Diego are:
Logan Heights Gang (LHG) – A prominent Sureño gang founded in the 1970s in Barrio Logan, Logan Heights, and Memorial. It operates through several subsets, including Red Steps, 30th Street, 33rd Street, and Logan Heights 13, with a small group in Colina del Sol. The LHG has ties to the Tijuana Cartel and other criminal organizations, and its influence extends beyond San Diego to Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Denver, Minneapolis, and Tijuana.
Other Hispanic gangs – The region also includes smaller Sureño and Norteño groups, as well as alliances with the Mexican Mafia and other transnational cartels.
Biker gangs and white gangs – While less dominant in Southeast San Diego than in other parts of the city, biker gangs and white street gangs have been present in some areas.
Asian gangs – Groups such as the Asian Boys, Oriental Crips, and Deep Valley Bloods have been active in parts of Southeast San Diego.
When a neighborhood is infiltrated by criminal street gang activity, the police respond in kind. Accordingly, the San Diego Police Department has taken on a gangster mentality themselves and identify as “The Baddest Gang In Town”.
This wouldn’t be so bad for basically law abiding citizens of the “The Baddest Gang In Town”, the San Diego Police Department, if they confined their abuse of civilians to real deal gang members. The problem is that San Diego Police Officers don’t confine their abusive conduct to gangsters, and often treat law-abiding civilians as if they were street gang members.
When they happens, the law-abiding citizens of Southeast San Diego often exercise their First Amendment right to verbally protest of verbally challenge their abusive conduct by San Diego Police Officers. When that happens, they are now deemed to be in “Contempt of Cop”. See, The “Contempt of Cop Game”; How Well Can You Play steeringlaw.com.
When they are now deemed to be in Contempt of Cop, and they are often beaten, tased, pepper-sprayed and falsely arrested for some fabricated “resistance offense” such as violation of Cal. Penal Code § 69 (resisting officer with force), Cal. Penal Code § 148(a)(1) (resisting/delaying/obstructing officer), Cal. Penal Code § 240/241 (assault on officer), Cal. Penal Code § 242 / 243(b) & (c) (battery on officer causing injury) and Cal. Penal Code § 245(c) (assault on officer with weapon).
This is not lefty propaganda; this is reality.
IF YOU ARE THE VICTIM OF POLICE MISCONDUCT, JERRY L. STEERING CAN HELP YOU ACTUALLY ENFORCE YOUR RIGHTS BY WINNING YOUR CASE.
The only thing that matters when enforcing your rights, is whether you win your case. If you don’t win your case, then you have no rights because you have no way to enforce them.
Just because the police violated your constitutional rights doesn’t mean that you can do anything about it. In order to “do something about it”, to enforce your constitutional rights, it takes a great deal of experience, insights, skill and savvy. You need a unanimous jury of usually 8 jurors to vote in your favor in federal court to win your case. If you mouth-off to the cops or don’t do what the police tell you to do or cuss out the cops, or act like a jerk, one or more of the jurors in your case may not vote for you. That is the reality in which we all live.
