Mr. Steering’s many years of experience and acquired knowledge can help you maximize your chances of actually winning your Police Misconduct Civil Rights case, and winning is the only thing that matters. If you cannot win your Civil Rights Police Misconduct Lawsuit then you have no rights, because you have no way to enforce them, and a right without a remedy in the real world does not exist.

THE POLICE IN CASTAIC ARE OFTEN BRUTAL AND ARE INSTITUTIONALLY DISHONEST.

Castaic is an unincorporated community in northwestern Los Angeles County, California that has an estimated population of 19,000 residents. The Castaic area is patrolled by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department that deploys out of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, located at 26201 Golden Valley Road, Santa Clarita, CA 91350.

The demographics of Castaic are White (43.1%), followed by Hispanic (36.2%), Asian (11.5%), Black or African American (1.5%), American Indian and Alaska Native (1.4%) and Other Race (11.7%).

LOS ANGELES MS 13 GANG MEMBERSLike other areas of Los Angeles County, Castaic has its problems with criminal street gangs, mostly gangs that are part of the broader Sureños / Sureno-affiliated networks of gangs (often using “13”) that dominate the Santa Clarita Valley. See, Case work on ‘generational gang’ in progress, The Signal Santa Clarita Valley, August 15, 2025; Gang Members With ‘Lengthy Criminal Records’ Arrested In Castaic, KHTS Radio, May 28, 2020.

Castaic doesn’t only have problems with criminal street gangs. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputy sheriffs have been involved in very questionable shootings of civilians. See for example, Bodycam video shows deputies shooting man who shot into car carrying child, woman in Castaic, “Critical Incident Briefing – Santa Clarita Valley Station, 10/11/24“, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. See also, Fatal Deputy-Involved-Shooting In Castaic, KCAL News; Family of man killed during confrontation with sheriff’s deputy sues department, Los Angeles Times, December 27, 2024; Man Killed in Officer-Involved Shooting in Castaic, SCVNews.com; Reports on two deputy-involved shootings that occurred in and near the Santa Clarita Valley in January have been released by the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) for the County of Los Angeles, KHTS Radio.

Because the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has to deal with these criminal street gangs on a daily basis, many of the deputies have adopted a “We’re the baddest gang in town” mentality.

LASD EXECUTIONERS TATTOO - captioned 2The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has already had its own internal problems with many of their stations actually and factually being run by named real-deal gangs of deputy sheriffs within the department. See, Gangs in the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Wikipedia; CJLP Deputy Gang Report, Loyola Marymount Law School, Los Angeles deputy gangs allegedly plaguing sheriff’s department, Los Angeles deputy gangs allegedly plaguing sheriff’s department, NBC News.

This street gang / police gang combination often results in Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputy sheriffs treating basically law-abiding civilians like street criminals.

When those basically law-abiding civilians are treated like street criminals by Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputy sheriffs are taken-aback by such undeserved treatment by deputies, they often verbally protest and verbally challenge the orders and actions of the deputies. When that happens, those basically law-abiding civilians are then deemed to be in “Contempt of Cop”. See, The “Contempt of Cop Game”; How Well Can You Play?, steeringlaw.com.

When that happens, those basically law-abiding civilians are then often beaten or tased or pepper-sprayed, and then falsely arrested or maliciously prosecuted for some fabricated “resistance offense” such as violation of Cal. Penal Code § 69 (resisting officer with force), Cal. Penal Code § 148(a)(1) (resisting/delaying/obstructing officer), Cal. Penal Code § 240/241 (assault on officer), Cal. Penal Code § 242 / 243(b) & (c) (battery on officer causing injury) and Cal. Penal Code § 245(c) (assault on officer with weapon).

IF YOU ARE THE VICTIM OF POLICE MISCONDUCT, JERRY L. STEERING CAN HELP YOU ACTUALLY ENFORCE YOUR RIGHTS BY WINNING YOUR CASE.

Screen Capture from LA ABC 7 Interview of JLS on Jovan Jimenez caseThe only thing that matters when enforcing your rights, is whether you win your case. If you don’t win your case, then you have no rights because you have no way to enforce them.

Just because the police violated your constitutional rights doesn’t mean that you can do anything about it. In order to “do something about it”, to enforce your constitutional rights, it takes a great deal of experience, insights, skill and savvy. You need a unanimous jury of usually 8 jurors to vote in your favor in federal court to win your case. If you mouth-off to the cops or don’t do what the police tell you to do or cuss out the cops, or act like a jerk, one or more of the jurors in your case may not vote for you. That is the reality in which we all live.
