As the old saying goes, “The young lawyer knows the law, but the old lawyer knows the Judge”. THE POLICE IN NORTHRIDGE ARE BRUTAL AND INSTITUTIONALLY DISHONEST. Northridge is a neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles, California. Accordingly, Northridge is policed by the Los Angeles Police Department, whose motto is “We’re the badest gang in town”. Unlike popular TV shows like “Dragnet” and “Adam 12” that portray LAPD Officers as polite and respectful to the public, non-violent professionals who are polite to the public, todays LAPD is more like the type of policing shown in the classic movie about the LAPD in the 1950s, “L.A. Confidential“. That film tells the story of a group of LAPD officers in 1953, and the intersection of incredible police corruption and Hollywood celebrity. Until the Rodney King beating incident in 1991 most Angelinos were still living in a fantasy world about the LAPD. However, the Rodney King incident marked the beginning of public actually seeing video recorded outrageous LAPD beatings. The Rodney King Beating. In 1991 Rodney King was badly beaten by LAPD officers after leading police on an 8-mile vehicle pursuit. When the convoy of LAPD patrol cars and a LAPD helicopter finally stopped King by Hansen Dam Park. they beat King with their batons, fracturing his skull in 9 places. King’s beating was captured on a VHS video recording by a bystander and 4 LAPD Officers were criminally prosecuted in State Court by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for beating King. District Attorney Ira Reiner thought that the beating of King by the LAPD Officers was so obviously outrageous that he agreed to move the trial of the 4 LAPD Officers from downtown Los Angeles to the bedroom suburb community of Simi Valley, California, a place populated by basically pro-police conservative white people. In 1992 the “pro-cop” jurors in Simi Valley acquitted all 4 LAPD Officers, and the black population in Los Angeles rioted, burning 5,500 buildings in Los Angeles, with the Governor calling out the National Guard to suppress the riots. See, When LA Erupted In Anger: A Look Back At The Rodney King Riots, NPR April 26, 2017. Following the acquittal of those 4 LAPD officers in state court, the U.S. Attorney’s Officers criminally prosecuted those same 4 officers in federal court for violating Rodney King’s federal constitutional rights under 18 U.S.C. § 242; violation of constitutional rights under color of authority. Two of the LAPD officers, Sgt. Stacey Koon and Lawrence Powell, were convicted and sentenced to federal prison. As bad at the Rodney King was, is paled in outrageousness in comparison to the LAPD Rampart Scandal. The LAPD Rampart Scandal. In “Training Day“, Denzel Washington, plays real-life LAPD Officer Rafael Perez who worked in the LAPD’s CRASH Anti-Gang Unit out of LAPD’s Rampart Division. The Rampart Station’s CRASH Anti-Gang Unit attempted to take over the narcotics business in Central Los Angeles by murdering and framing suspected gang members drug dealers. See, Rampart Scandal Exposed: The corruption filled Truth About the LAPD and dirty cops like Rafael Perez. Rafael Perez was arrested and turned state’s evidence, resulting in over 100 convictions being overturned. In one of those frame-up cases by Rafael Perez, Mr. Steering obtained an $850,000.00 award from the City of Los Angeles for a young man who Rafael Perez attempted to frame for a murder that took place in a McDonald’s restaurant in Central Los Angeles.
