Mr. Steering’s many years of experience and acquired knowledge can help you maximize your chances of actually winning your Police Misconduct Civil Rights case, and winning is the only thing that matters. If you cannot win your Civil Rights Police Misconduct Lawsuit then you have no rights, because you have no way to enforce them, and a right without a remedy in the real world does not exist.

THE POLICE IN WRIGHTWOOD ARE OFTEN BRUTAL AND ARE INSTITUTIONALLY DISHONEST.

Wrightwood is a census-designated place in San Bernardino County, California that is located 77 miles northeast of Los Angeles. Wrightwood sits at an elevation of 6,208 feet above sea level in the
San Gabriel Mountains on the Pacific Crest Trail, with an estimated population of 5,000.

The demographics of Wrightwood are White (78.4%), Two or more races (7.5%), Other race (6.2%), Asian (4.1%), Native American (2.5%) and Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander (1.4%).

Twin Peaks station deputies 2Wrightwood is patrolled by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department; an agency with a long and well-deserved reputation for brutality, false arrests and malicious prosecutions.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department has had its bad shootings lately, even in the mountain community of Wrightwood. See, Fatal Calif. Police-Involved Shooting Ruled Justified (The San Bernardino County District Attorney’s office justified the officer-involved shooting of a distraught Wrightwood man), Officer.com. This Officer-Involved-Shooting trend by San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department deputies is increasing at an alarming rate. See, SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY SHERIFF SHANNON DICUS
MID-TERM REPORT October 2024 (“Since Sheriff Dicus took office, the department has seen nearly two officer-involved shootings each month”).

Moreover, the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office never finds fault with any of these Officer-Involved-Shootings by San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department deputies. See, San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office Use of Force Case Reviews.

San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department SWAT 6Most of the time that the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department abuses basically law-abiding civilians is in the context of “Contempt of Cop” situations; verbal protest and verbal challenge to police orders and actions. See, The “Contempt of Cop Game”; How Well Can You Play?, steeringlaw.com.

Verbal protest and verbal challenge to police orders and actions has long been held to be fundamental to a free society: “The freedom of individuals verbally to oppose or challenge police action without thereby risking arrest is one of the principal characteristics by which we distinguish a free nation from a police state”. City of Houston v. Hill, 482 U.S. 451 (1987), Brennan, J.

However, that doesn’t mean that in the real world that verbally protesting and verballing challenging police orders and actions won’t result in San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department deputies beating or tasing or pepper-spraying and falsely arresting and maliciously prosecuting you. That is the reality of life in San Bernardino County, and otherwise throughout California these days.

In San Bernardino County and are accosted by a Deputy Sheriff, the best thing to do is keep your mouth shut, do whatever the deputy tells you to do, and you’ll probably come out of that situation okay. Otherwise, stay in your fantasy world that you have rights that won’t be violated by the police.

IF YOU ARE THE VICTIM OF POLICE MISCONDUCT, JERRY L. STEERING CAN HELP YOU ACTUALLY ENFORCE YOUR RIGHTS BY WINNING YOUR CASE.

Screen Capture from LA ABC 7 Interview of JLS on Jovan Jimenez caseThe only thing that matters when enforcing your rights, is whether you win your case. If you don’t win your case, then you have no rights because you have no way to enforce them.

Just because the police violated your constitutional rights doesn’t mean that you can do anything about it. In order to “do something about it”, to enforce your constitutional rights, it takes a great deal of experience, insights, skill and savvy. You need a unanimous jury of usually 8 jurors to vote in your favor in federal court to win your case. If you mouth-off to the cops or don’t do what the police tell you to do or cuss out the cops, or act like a jerk, one or more of the jurors in your case may not vote for you. That is the reality in which we all live.
