THE POLICE IN SAN GABRIEL ARE OFTEN BRUTAL AND ARE INSTITUTIONALLY DISHONEST. San Gabriel is a city located in the San Gabriel Valley of Los Angeles County, California with an estimated population of 40,000. The demographics of San Gabriel are 59% Asian, 26% Hispanic, 10% White, 2% two or more races, 1% African American, 1% Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander and 1% Other race. Unlike other smaller cities in Los Angeles County, San Gabriel has its own police department, headquartered at 625 S. Del Mar Avenue, San Gabriel, California. That agency has quite a sordid history with the use of excessive force, including wrongful beatings and shootings. Asian gangs dot the San Gabriel Valley, where the Asian population continues to grow rapidly. Not all Asian gang members are Asians, Choo said. Some get in either because the dai lo likes them or an Asian girlfriend sponsored them, Choo said. Asian gang members don’t necessarily hail from broken homes or live in poverty. Many come from affluent families and live double lives, detectives said. The alleged leader of the Black Dragons, which has been around since 1984, and 22 alleged members were arrested last year as part of a three-year investigation by the FBI and local police. The charges, which stem from three separate cases, include murder, attempted murder, solicitation of murder and dissuading a witness. Investigators say members of another San Gabriel Asian Gang, the Black Dragons, killed, committed home-invasion robberies and extortions, and ran prostitution houses. The only thing that matters when enforcing your rights, is whether you win your case. If you don’t win your case, then you have no rights because you have no way to enforce them. Just because the police violated your constitutional rights doesn’t mean that you can do anything about it. In order to “do something about it”, to enforce your constitutional rights, it takes a great deal of experience, insights, skill and savvy. You need a unanimous jury of usually 8 jurors to vote in your favor in federal court to win your case. If you mouth-off to the cops or don’t do what the police tell you to do or cuss out the cops, or act like a jerk, one or more of the jurors in your case may not vote for you. That is the reality in which we all live.
