They drove through Long Beach at night, and were subjected to a bogus traffic stop by Long Beach police officers. When Sgt. Jackson protested the stop, the Long Beach Police Officer arrested Sgt. Jackson’s settled was settled with Long Beach after the involved officers were fired. In some other cases of police brutality by Hawthorne Police Department police officer, two people who claim they were beaten by Hawthorne police during a raucous party in 2006 have settled their federal civil rights lawsuit for $1 million. Anthony Goodrow claimed Hawthorne police officers kicked him in the face while he was handcuffed, breaking his jaw. Karla Henriquez Goodrow maintained she was wrongly arrested when she tried to stop the officers from hurting Goodrow. In another case, a deaf man has filed a lawsuit claiming he was brutally assaulted by four Hawthorne police officers while he packed his car with snowboarding equipment just before he went to his regular Bible study class a year ago. In another case, a videotape showed two Hawthorne police officers slapping high-fives in the aftermath of an arrest in which one of their co-workers allegedly kicked a handcuffed suspect in the face, breaking his jaw. In another Hawthorne Police Department outrage, a man was permanently blinded in his right eye in May after three Hawthorne police officers allegedly slammed his face into a metal lockbox outside a jail facility and then laughed and ignored his pleas for help in what a federal lawsuit describes as torture.
