POLICE MISCONDUCT OVERVIEW

I recently had a traffic ticket lawyer from San Antonio, Texas contact me to discuss the problem of police misconduct, especially false arrest and police brutality.  Apparently, in Texas, law enforcement agencies from Austin to San Antonio to Corpus Christi get together each year for what is called the Great Texas Warrant Roundup.  These Texas cops show up at citizens’ front doors, places of work and even at restaurants to execute thousands of traffic ticket warrants.

Justin Coquat of The Coquat Law Firm pointed out that every year at this time, the instances of police misconduct and just general nastiness seemingly rises across Texas, due to what he believes is law enforcement being bent out of shape over having to execute what they consider to be bothersome warrants.  He says it’s an opportunity for law enforcement to take out their frustrations on the most minimal of violators.

Now, I don’t personally do traffic ticket defense in my legal practice at the Law Offices of Jerry L. Steering, but I certainly know a good bit about false arrests and police brutality.  So, while Justin writes about traffic ticket issues, here’s a brief overview of what I think every citizen should know from a rights standpoint about these topics.
